Robbie McClaran

July 19 - August 24, 2001

Over the years Robbie McClaran's work has been and continues to be seen in such wide-spread publications as The New York Times Magazine, Time, Newsweek and National Geographic. His subjects include remarkable everyday individuals, the famed, and the politically notorious.

McClaran's images highlight the social placement political stance of individuals as well as groups. With his most virulent, outspoken subjects as well as his more passive sitters, McClaran has the knack of voicing their outcries through his depictions, coupled with his own apparent, yet subtle comment(s).

Working primarily from pictorial assignments, McClaran has photographed many of this country's most vigilant citizens and politicians of the righteous right of recent years. His most renown series Angry White Men is the common thread of McClaran's assignments from various publications including The New York Times Magazine and Time Magazine during the 1990's. Due to his credentials, McClaran has been able to photograph the symbolic leaders of the religious right, such as Pat Buchanan and Jerry Falwell, and some of the most infamous conspirators of the last decade, including the late Timothy McVeigh.

Included in with the more newsworthy figures, this exhibit will also feature some of McClaran's quieter views, from Eastern Oregon and Washington D.C. to Mexico and Romania.
