HIROMI TSUCHIDA
Born in 1939 in Fukui Prefecture, Tsuchida earned an engineering degree from Fukui University in 1963 and then enrolled in the Tokyo College of Photography, from which he graduated in 1966. He began his career as a publicity photographer for a cosmetics company and by 1971 was in freelance. Much of the work he produced in the 1970’s focuses on traditional Japanese life and customs—documented during his travels throughout Japan—and their suspended nature within the urbanization of regions and the culture as a whole. By the late 1970s and into the 1980s he was delving into the aftermath of the Hiroshima bombing.
