EIKOH HOSOE
Born Hosoe Toshihiro in 1933 in Yamagata Prefecture, Hosoe lives and works
in Tokyo. Initially he worked freelance, a member of the Vivo agency, and
in 1975 returned to his alma mater, now called the Tokyo Institute of Polytechnics, as a professor of Photography.

During the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's Hosoe produced several publications,
including his most famous series Ordeal by Roses, shot in 1961 and published
in 1963. Hosoe has been a a proponent of surrealism throughout his career
and has been bestowed many honors in and outside of Japan.
